About Us

Origins of the Sarah Gillett foundation

In the nineteenth century, Sarah Jane Dickinson married Darwin L. Gillett, the head of a prominent business family in Westfield, MA. Following her unfortunate passing, a resident home for women in need was established in her honor. The house operated until 1970, until it was sold. The proceeds became the base endowment for the Sarah Gillett Foundation.

Fifty years later, we have raised over one million dollars in support for our community’s senior citizens, thanks to our volunteer board of trustees and corporators.
